Namma Metro Hits 8 Lakh Daily Ridership — A New Record for Bengaluru
Bengaluru Metro achieved record ridership of 8 lakh passengers in a single day, driven by Purple Line extension to Whitefield.
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that Namma Metro achieved a single-day ridership of over 8 lakh passengers — the highest since the metro began operations in 2011.
The milestone was attributed to the completion of the Purple Line extension to Whitefield (Kadugodi), which brought metro access to Bengaluru's largest IT corridor for the first time.
Key ridership drivers:
•Whitefield extension added 12+ new stations
•IT employees from ITPL, Bagmane, and Whitefield campuses began using metro
•Petrol and diesel price increases pushed more commuters to public transport
•Improved train frequency on both Purple and Green lines
BMRCL is also planning a Phase 3 expansion to cover Tumkur Road and Hosur Road corridors, expected to push daily ridership above 15 lakh by 2028.
